Rules of the Move-lah
Sooo here’s how Move-lah works within this course (this stuff applies, of course, only if you’re taking the Move-lah version of the course):
SUBMITTING YOUR MOVE-LAH:
- The system will require you to submit your Move-lah for each module on or before the due date (see schedule here) in order to gain access to the next module and to continue working your way through the course.
- Submit your Move-lah by filling out the “Submit Move-lah” form for each Module.
- After submitting your Move-lah, you’ll be asked to re-enter your username and password in order to gain access to the next module. Once this has been completed, you should receive a confirmation email and you should now have access to the next module within the site. If you need further help with this step, see the detailed Move-lah submission instructions.
- If you’ve submitted your Move-lah but you still cannot access the next module, please contact the support team for assistance.
WHAT IF YOU MISS THE MOVE-LAH DUE DATE?
- If you miss the Move-lah submission deadline, you’ll have a one week grace period to complete and submit your homework. (If you miss a group meeting, you also have a one week grace period to complete a “make-up” meeting– see details within the “Group Essentials” section of the Overview. Keep in mind that you can miss one group meeting and still advance; however, even if you miss a meeting, you must always turn in your Move-lah and submit your homework in order to access the next module.)
- Please note that you can only take advantage of this grace period twice. The third time you miss a deadline, you will be “expelled” from this session of the course, OH NO! 🙁 That is, you’ll lose the ability to continue working through the current session of the course. You may elect to start the course over (with a brand new group) when the next course session begins.
- (Under special circumstances, we can work around this– email us if you find yourself in a hairy spot, and we’ll help you decide what the best alternative might be!)
- Why? I’m not a huge fan of “rules,” but in order to help this program work as smoothly and efficiently as possible, I’ve decided these rules are beneficial for a few good reasons:
1. If one person doesn’t do their Move-lah, the whole group suffers. Because small group interaction is such an integral part of the course, it’s especially important that everyone is doing their homework on time and participating in the group meetings for each module. Therefore, these rules are in place for “the good of the whole”: if one person doesn’t do his or her homework on time, the whole group suffers, so it’s important to stay on track.
2. Deadlines and consequences help encourage action and promote accountability. They provide structure and a sense of accountability, which are important factors in motivating behavioral change (one of the goals of this course!).
“IS THIS TRUE FOR ME?”
Before moving on to the next section of the GPS, I encourage you to take a moment to ask yourself the questions below. If you’d like, you can jot your answers down on paper, in a Word doc, or you can just think about them in your head. Do whatever works for you.
Questions to ask yourself:
- What would happen if I missed group meetings or failed to prepare for group meetings (by not having read the course material or done the “homework”)? How would this affect the other members of my group, and how would this affect me?
- What would happen if other group members missed group meetings or failed to prepare? How would this affect me and the other members of my group?
- What is it that I’m hoping to get out of this course? What do I need to put into it in order to get the most out of it? Am I willing to do this?
If your answers to these questions conflict with the “rules” or if you’ve realized that maybe you aren’t ready or able to commit to the Move-lah structure to the best of your ability, then email us and let us know. We can talk with you to figure out the best solution.
Otherwise, let’s continue on!
An essential piece of the Move-lah for each module involves meeting with your small group, WOOHOO! Continue on to the Groups section of the GPS to learn more.
